Invalid on disk structure attempting to open attachments

We are also having this same issue on Domino and Notes 8.5.1.

Same behavior as the other posts - the user forwards the email and they can open the pdf attachments. Then can open using iNotes too.

As the original emails that generate the error are sent from outside the company I started looking at the Page Source and the MIME encoding. My initial thought is that the MIME is not encoded correctly, but I've got to do some research on this to confirm.

Any other ideas out there?
